Due date

Today is my actual due date, January 30, 2011.
We feel so incredibly blessed to have had our babies home for almost 4 weeks!

Here are some pictures from the last couple days.

After feeding time this morning we put them on their play mat.
They were about a foot apart from each other. Minutes later this is how we found them.
:)

Their new toy! They love it!

ha!
This picture cracks me up!

Sweet girls!
I said I would never put headbands on the girls.
Um, I did.

This picture makes me laugh as well.
Mable looks a little unsure of whats going on.

Fyi- the sweaters they have on are newborn.
Everything is sooooo big on them!

Weight Checks!!

We went to the Doctor on yesterday.
It looked like Ruby had a little eye infection, but come to find out it was only a blocked tear duct. No meds needed, just a warm washcloth pressed against the eye and a little massaging.
Today you can not even tell there was anything wrong.
We went ahead and took both babies, since we were to go on Friday for weight checks.
I am VERY happy to report, THE GIRLS ARE GROWING!

Ruby now weighs 5 pounds 3 ounces! Up 3 ounces from her birth weight and up 6 ounces in 4 days!

Mable is now a big 4 pounds 6 ounces! Up 4 ounces from her birth weight and up 5 ounces in 4 days!

Before we know it the girls will be 10 pounds! I am so glad they are growing and getting bigger. It was a little scary having such small babies.
The only clothes that still fit them are preemies. They are wearing preemie diapers.
We are having newborn pictures taken next Saturday and the girls have nothing "picture worthy" that they can fit into. So, there will be lots of naked pictures :)

Playtime?

We have been trying to keep the girls awake during the day, so they will sleep at night.
It works sometimes...
and sometimes not.

The girls are 2 weeks old today!

* I plan on uploading pics from the girls birth and our hospital stay.
We have so many pictures, I just need to go through them all...
You know, when I get a free moment :)

Dr.'s appt. and weight checks

When we left the hospital it was known the girls needed to put on some weight.
They are small, but very healthy.
When we left the hospital on Jan. 9 the girls weighed in at,
Ruby 4 pounds 11.5 oz and Mable 3 pounds 14.6 oz
On Thursday, Jan 13 we had our first pediatrician appointment.
Prior to leaving we had 3 clothes changes with Mable.
We had plan the day before, everything down to the route we would take to the Doctors office. We made it to the appointment on time! yay!
Ruby weighed 4 pounds 12 ounces and Mable 3 pounds 15 ounces.
They were up in weight and that's what we were looking for.
We went back for a weight check in on Saturday, Jan. 15
Ruby weighed in a 4 pounds 13 ounces and Mable 4 pounds 1 ounce.

The girls are eating great! We go back on Friday for another weigh in.
Have a feeling they will be up a good bit!

* On our first Dr.'s appt. I dressed the girls in cute outfits with a matching sweater... 3 layers of clothes. After getting them dressed and then undressed in less than an hour we learned our lesson. Appointment number 2, they wore a sleeper with easy zipper access.

Birthday!

On January 4, 2011 we welcomed our sweet little bundles of joy.
My heart melts every time I think about their precious little faces.
The night of my section I could not sleep. I was awake all night. Around 5 am I decided to get up, fix my hair and put on some make-up. This was the first time I had done so in over a week. Remember, I was placed in the hospital 8 days prior for high blood pressure and edema.
Around 6 the nurses started coming in. I was given fluids and prepped for surgery. Eric was given scrubs. Around 7 our family arrived. We were all able to hang out together before I was wheeled to the OR.
Once in the OR I started to get a little nervous. It became real that we were about to meet our babies when I saw 2 warmers. Wow! After all this time it's here. It's now. Crazy!
I was given my spinal. It took 3 tries. It was not that bad. I was shaking like crazy at this point, but tried to focus on what was to come. Soon Eric was in the room and section was under way.
Eric and I were able to take a couple pictures and chat about what was happening.
Before we knew it our life was changed forever. At 7:59 am Our beautiful Ruby Claire entered the world. She let everyone in the room know she was there by letting out lough cries.
At this moment I cried the happiest tears of my life. I was a Mom.
Ruby was held up, but I was not able to see her. I did get to see her foot. It was the cutest thing I had ever seen. Eric took pictures and showed me while we waited for her sister to arrive.
At 8:01 beautiful Mable Rose made her way into the world. It took her a minute to cry, but when she did, she was loud. She wanted us to know that she might be small, but she is strong. The Doctor walked her around the curtain and I was able to get a glance at my sweet girl.
At this moment it hit me. Not only am I a Mom, but a Mom to twin girls. The girls that I had carried for 36 week and 2 days. The names Ruby and Mable now actually have a body to be connected to. This was the best moment of my life. I can not imagine anything every topping this day.
The nurses waved Eric over and he was able to watch them access each baby. On the way out to the nursery the nurses walked each baby over for me to see. I was so in love. In love with their cute noses, precious lips and wrinkly foreheads. I gave each one a kiss as they were walked out the door. Eric followed the babies to the nursery. Out in the hallway all of our family had gathered. They were able to get a look at their granddaughter and nieces.
While the Doctors finished up with me, everyone, family and friends gathered by the nursery window and watched the girls get weighed, bathed and checked out. Mable had a little fluid on her lungs and her temperature was low so, she was put under the warmer on her belly. She made a very fast come back.
After the Doctors finished up with me I was sent back to recover in my room. Our family and friends would come in and show me pictures of the girls. Eric would take videos of the girls and send a friend or family member back to the room, so I could get a glimpse of what was going on the first moments of the girls life.
Soon it was time to be taken out of recover and wheeled to our new room. On the way we past the nursery and I was able to see the girls from afar.
It was not much longer when there was a knock at the door and in came Ruby Claire. She was placed in my arms and I just cried. It was such a magical moment.
Mable soon joined us. When she was placed in my arms my emotions took over again. I cried a million happy tears.
There we were, a family of 4.

At 7:59 am Ruby Claire entered the world, followed by her sister Mable Rose at 8:01am.
Ruby weighed 5 pounds and Mable 4 pounds 2 ounces
They were assessed in the nursery and then sent to our room.
They are perfect!
We are now home and loving life as a family of 4!

Big Day!

Tomorrow is the big day!
In less than 8 hours we will be parents. We have hoped and prayed for this day.
I thought I would be a bit more nervous, but at this point I am pretty calm.
We have done all we can do up until this point. Now everything is in the Doctors hands. We put all of our faith and trust in the Lord. He will be there to rest his hands on us during delivery.
I am looking forward to hearing my babies first cries, seeing their sweet faces, hands and toes. Holding them for the first time and whispering in their ears all the things I hope to teach them as they grow older.
I love this quote!

“Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”
Elizabeth Stone quote

NYE

New Years Eve we celebrated with Outback take out and watching the ball drop in Times Square. We counted down with the east coast. I was pretty tired and not sure I would make it to midnight.
Today we are having our black eyed peas and cabbage. We are hoping to become rich and lucky, so those "one day" houses we talk about having on the beach and and the lake can come true.
ha :)
Can not believe it is 2011!!!
Whenever we found out we were pregnant it seemed so far away! Now it's here and we are days away from meeting our babies!!
Wishing everyone a wonderful 2011!!!
